Past Research Assistants

While research assistants typically learn a great deal during their time in the lab, the ultimate goal is for these promising students to move on to graduate programs and eventual careers in psychology and related fields. The students below have made excellent contributions to our work and are well on their way to making a wider impact on the world.
Nasreen Toorabally
After studying abroad at California State University Monterey Bay, Nasreen (Naz) Toorabally received her Bachelors degree in psychology from the University of Essex in 2016 and her Masters of Health Psychology from University College London in 2019. Naz's research interests include female sexual orientation. She is particularly interested in the notion of sexual fluidity in women and the influences of life stages/age, environment, and culture on this experience.
Jonathan Kerth
Jonathan graduated from Willamette University in 2018 as a psychology major. He is currently a Talent Acquisition Manager at PK in Seattle, WA.

Lina Truong
Allison graduated from Willamette University in 2017 as a double major in Psychology and Religious Studies. Her interests include clinical psychology, with a focus on mood and personality disorders, suicide prevention, and faith integration. Allison is currently a Skills Trainer for Trillium Family Services in Oregon, and is applying to graduate programs in clinical psychology.
Lina Truong graduated from Willamette University in 2018 as a double major in Psychology and Chinese Studies. She is currently earning a Masters in Public Health Services at the University of Washington.
Lyndsey Shimazu
Lyndsey graduated from Willamette University in 2019 as a Psychology and Economics double major. She is currently a Quantitative Analyst at Evergreen Economics, a renewable energy consulting firm in Portland, OR.
John Paul Welch
John Paul graduated from Willamette University in 2020 as a Psychology and Philosophy double major. His research interests include substance use disorders, clinical psychology, and psychology of emotion. John Paul is interested in applying to clinical psychology doctoral programs, possibly specializing in substance abuse treatment.
Lev El-Askari
Lev graduated from Willamette in 2020 as a Psychology major. He worked as a researcher at Oregon Health & Science University and is currently earning a Masters in Data Analytics from North Carolina State University.
Izzabella Green
Bella graduated from Willamette University in 2020 as a biology major and psychology minor. After graduation, she worked as a researcher at the Mayo Clinic studying genetic effects of early life stressors. She is currently a student in the MD/PhD program at the University of Minnesota studying conditioning processes in addiction.
Ross Enlow
Ross graduated from Willamette University in 2020 as a Psychology major. He is currently earning a Masters in Professional Mental Health Counseling at Lewis & Clark College. He plans to become a licensed therapist.

Olivia Scott
Olivia graduated from Willamette University in 2020 with a degree in Psychology before earning her Master’s of Social Work at the University of Pennsylvania in 2022. She is currently a therapist at the Monroe Correctional Complex in Washington state.
Mackenzie Stueve
Mackenzie graduated from Willamette University in 2020 as a Psychology and Women & Gender Studies double major. Her interests include gender, sexuality, and clinical psychology. She is currently earning a Master's in Social Work at Portland State University.

Kela Iwata
Kela graduated from Willamette University in 2022 with a major in Psychology and minor in English. She is currently earning a doctorate in psychology at Chaminade University of Honolulu.
Camryn Pickworth
Camy graduated from Willamette University in 2021 with as a Civic Communication and Media major with a psychology minor. She has an interest in relationship and sexuality research especially as it pertains to the well-being of couples. She hopes to apply for a clinical psychology doctoral program, focusing on relationship and couples treatments.
Parker Jones
Parker is a third year student at Willamette University, majoring in Studio Art & Psychology. His interests in art include photography, painting, and drawing. In psychology his interests lie in clinical and emotional psychology. On top of working as a research assistant in the sexuality and relationships lab he also works at the office of community service learning as a service learning assistant.
Phil Doherty
Phil is a Senior at Willamette University majoring in Psychology and minoring in History. He hopes to apply for a mental health counseling masters program
